Its unique appearance, resembling a lemon, its thorny growth, and its indescribable taste make it highly prized, especially in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese cuisine. While it looks like a lemon, its flavor is reminiscent of citrus and grapefruit, and it grows on small, thorny trees. In Australia, where most citrus fruits cost less than AU$500 per tonne, grapefruit can fetch as much as AU$25,000 per tonne, equivalent to AU$25 per kilogram farmgate. Growers must wear heavy welding gloves to harvest these small, yellow fruits from the thorny trees.
